What is REVS?
REVS is a new charity that aims to help people who have fallen out of traditional modes of support find a way to express their feelings, hopes, dreams, and frustrations in a constructive way. We find standing side by side mending a motorbike opens doors to conversations that can change lives.
REVS will use motorbike culture to create a diverse community of people, often found on the edge, who are seeking deeper meaning and new paths in life.
How will we achieve this?
By creating a melting pot of people on the edge through the intentional building of community around motorbikes. By being where people are – physically and spiritually. By being deliberately inter-generational. By starting clubs, through podcasts and social media, through meets that we start and meets that we attend, through ride outs – by being present, in body and mind.
By creating new paths of support, encouragement, and learning.
What are those new paths?
We aim to help those who reject conventional assistance by using biking (and biking culture) to engage with the therapeutic environment which biking creates – both physically and mentally.
We aim to engage with those who don’t trust conventional paths or who have been rejected by mainstream systems of support.
We help each other through the powerful connection and community that biking creates. The community is intentionally diverse.
We help each other through ‘doing’ things together. Standing together looking at a bike, working together to repair a broken wing mirror – deliberately ‘coming alongside’ to do, which enables talking.
We understand that after riding a motorbike we’re in a better place to ‘hear’ each other and to share our concerns and offer support where needed.
Importantly we aim to equip all to both seek and to give mental health support.
We will offer a place of welcome so all can see the powerful nature of the community we are building.
What does that mean in practice?
The launching of a new podcast – Spanners & Coffee – that aims to inspire people about biking and to start to build a community of people who would like to be involved in helping others.
By launching a new club aimed at the self employed delivery drivers that gather in town centres on scooters, ebikes and escooters. To offer a physical place of welcome alongside practical help with motorbike repair and maintenance and through that physical and practical assistance to create a place of safety which enables conversation and the sharing of problems.
By helping others to create physical places of support and to train others to listen and support – especially to those who are rejected in conventional places of help and support.
REVS is currently in the process of registering as a charity and we hope to formally launch in April 2024
